Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds
Virtual Worlds can be used in a variety of different ways. For example, Virtual Worlds can help make things easier and more efficient in the workplace. In the article Going to the Virtual Office in Second Life, the author Mark Tutton says "Virtual community Second Life is seeking to tap into that market by creating a new tool that allows businesses to have virtual meetings on their own computer networks". He explains how offices can now collectively host conferences and meetings remotely without the travel expenses, with the help of Second Life.
Ironically, virtual worlds can actually improve communication and social interactions. In the article iReport: 'Naughty Auties' Battle Autism with Virtual Interaction, the author Nicole Saidi says "visitors can practice social interaction and find information about the condition. The graphical representations of real people create a "comfort zone" that can coax users out of their shells and get them communicating with others". In essence, virtual worlds allow more introverted people to meet people from the comfort of their own home and disregards the reality of meeting people face to face.
Pros:

Pros:
- Mimics the real world
- Can cut down expenses
- Can experience things you cannot experience in the real world
Cons:
- People can become addicted
- Can mimic the real world but it doesn't represent the real world fully
- Technology is not fully developed
Virtual Worlds foster creativity because it can provide experiences and details that you won't be able to see in real life. It's a way for people to do things that aren't possible in real world which will help expand one's creativity.
The future of virtual worlds will continue to grow and become more developed as technology itself becomes more advanced. With advanced technology, more features will be able to be added into virtual worlds.
This is a great read. I totally agree that VR can help introverted people become more out going and friendly. This can also lead to a disadvantage where these introverted people who depend on VR refuse to actually go mingle with real people.
