As technology continues to develop, we are introduced to unprecedented technology that we have never imagined would become reality.  One new type of new media that I am interested in seeing is the implementation of virtual reality into the classroom.  I believe this would transcend how students learn and perform.  It would allow them to visualize lessons in a different way.  However, we have to be careful because of the fact that we are not too familiar with this technology.  There could be consequences and side effects that we may not know about yet.  In conclusion, we should look into using virtual reality at schools but we should tread about this lightly.

    I think VR in a classroom would allow for more meaningful education intensified by real life experiences.

    VR in classrooms would be more engaging and I believe students will be able to learn a lot and retain more information.

    VR has made its way in some trade school/engineering applications and has been pretty good on school's wallets too. In a classroom, I think it'd be great since not every student is receptive to learning from a textbook!

Advice

If I were hired by Baruch College to improve the school, there are a number of ways I would be able to implement new media to elevate the school.  For example, there can be a separate website where students can get one on one help from tutors in order to perform better on tests.  This will be more convenient for both students and tutors because they would not have to meet face to face.  I believe this would significantly improve exam grades.  Another improvement that could be made using new media is having classrooms with computers dedicated solely for test taking in order to help the school limit the use of paper and cut costs that go to purchasing printing paper.  I believe these two changes involving new media would help elevate Baruch College.

Blog: Social Networking Sites

After looking at Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Linkedin, I have different impressions about each of them.    My initial thoughts on Facebook is how simple it is to navigate through the site.  Everything is very easy to find and very easy to learn how to use.  Facebook allows users to share their thoughts, videos, location, etc., with others.  They also have to option to tag friends they've added in other peoples' posts and videos.  It is also possible to create different groups exclusive to those that have been added to it. Twitter is a great platform to share news and other events.  One of the things about Twitter that stands out most to me is the hashtag function.  It is so easy to filter out and focus on certain posts about certain topics.  Because of this, I think it is more useful to share news and current events.  The layout of the site seems to be more difficult to navigate than Facebook because of the many different tools...

Privacy

As technology continues to advance and become more relevant in our everyday lives, people seem to ignore how our privacy is getting invaded as a result of this.  As technology continues to advance, more of our personal information is being kept by companies and databases.  Our phones are practically an extension of some of us.  We have become too comfortable entrusting our personal information in these devices and databases.  If people are some how able to crack through a device or database, it becomes very easy for one to do serious damage to another individual’s life.  People are now able to track others and see their online activity much easier than it had been a couple decades ago.  Although technology is making our lives much easier, is it worth our safety and security?
