Blog Social Networking

Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others play such a big role in today's society.  It has gotten to the point where companies use these platforms to search for potential job candidates.  One platform, Linkedin, is an especially popular job recruiting tool that many companies have implemented in their search for the best job candidates.  In the article Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting, the author Frank Langfitt, says "typing keywords into a search engine, Crawford can scrape the entire network to dig out high-quality candidates that she can't find elsewhere."  Here, he explains how effective Linkedin is with just a simple keyword search.  In addition to job recruiting, social networking also useful for marketing.  Social networking allows companies to reach a much wider audience than they would without it.

On the other hand, there are consequences to using social networking as well.  For example, there is no such thing as privacy when it comes to social media.  In the article Facebook Privacy Is So Confusing Even the Zuckerberg Family Photo Isn't Private, the author Rebecca Greenfield says "Schweitzer saw it on her news feed, thinking that Zuckerberg posted it to her public page for subscribers to see. That was not the case, as Zuckerberg's little freak-out proves. It's possible, however, that Schweitzer saw it because she is friends with another one of the Zuckerberg clan.", explaining how someone was able to have access to a private photo that was not meant to be shared with anyone but friends and family.  This shows how privacy can be breached even on big social media platforms such as Facebook.  In the future, I can see these platforms growing even bigger but with better security features being incorporated so people do not have their privacy violated.

  1. This is a very interesting read. LinkedIn and Facebook, as well as other social networking platforms have made communication easier. LinkedIn helps recruiters, companies and most of all, job hunters. Facebook lets you have a social platform to express yourself but it's not as private as we believe.
